Thompson Tran - 2010 Grammy Award Nominee

Stage Presentation: 
Vietnamese Winter's Night; a Broth to Remember

Thompson Tran began his cooking career age14 at his family’s Vietnamese restaurant in Langley, BC by washing dishes and helping out with routine kitchen tasks. Although he spent the majority of his time as a youth studying the musical arts he consistently found himself in kitchen jobs.

In 2002 Thompson went on to obtain a Bachelor of Music degree in classical guitar performance and spent several years performing around Western Canada. Four years later, he received a Bachelor of Education and began teaching and eventually would take a two-year hiatus from both cooking and teaching to pursue a musical dream that culminated in a Grammy Award nomination in 2010. After an 8-month food exploration trip, Thompson decided to pursue cooking seriously and enrolled at Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts (PICA), and received a diploma in culinary arts and his level 2 Wine and Spirit Education Trust designation.

From 2007 to present, Chef Thompson has worked at several prestigious restaurants in Vancouver namely Bishop's, Il Giardino, Nu, Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club and is a former teaching chef instructor. Thompson has been a guest judge at numerous cooking competitions, featured in EAT Fraser Valley CTV Master Chefs Competition, the online spokesperson for Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts (PICA), and was a featured chef at the BCSPCA Unleashed Gala 2014. Thompson has also showcased cooking demo’s at Dairy Farmers of Canada’s “Canadian Cheese Counter” at EAT Vancouver, West Coast Women’s Show, BC Spot Prawn Festival and represented British Columbia in the “Grate Canadian Cheese Cook-off 2016” in Toronto at the Food & Drink Market. Chef Thompson is often on CTV News, Global News, or the radio providing lively and engaging information packed cooking demonstrations.

Most recently, Chef Thompson launched his retail sauce The Wooden Boat’s NUOC CHAM SAUCE and can be found in over 70 retailers in British Columbia, Montreal, & Maritimes. He continues to run his own boutique catering service specializing in Vietnamese and French fare. Gordon Desormeaux's nickname became "Dez" and his stage name then became "Chef Dez" entering his culinary career. As a Certified Red Seal Chef, Chef Dez has inspired thousands through his cooking classes, food columns, books, live performances, TV appearances, and culinary travel tours.
Chef Dez resides in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia, Canada with his family. His passion for food and people is second to none and anyone who has attended his live performances would agree.
Thousands of have rekindled their romance for the culinary arts because of his infectious enthusiasm for bringing ingredients together.

Brian Misko - Legendary Pitmaster

Entertaining on a Budget

 

With his naturally inquisitive mind, Brian Misko has taken his passion about grilling from his backyard playground in Surrey, British Columbia to competing and winning awards around North America.

Starting with bbq competitions in 2006 in Vancouver and Whistler, Brian has lead his team to the Jack Daniels World BBQ Championships in 2009 and again this past October. House of Q completed this 2014 bbq season as the #1 Team in Canada. Brian was a guest chef at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics with Vikram Vij, Pino Postero, John Bishop and Tojo at his side. His collection of trophies, plaques, ribbons and awards shows his determination to be the best.

Brian shares his know-how through regular interviews and cooking demonstrations on TV, newspapers and magazine articles. Thousands have seen his BBQ Tips on the Global TV BC Morning News, at a trade show cooking demonstration or at cooking classes across Western Canada.

Most exciting is his new title as cookbook author. Having just completed the editing Brian is looking forward to sharing his book, Grilling with House of Q, being released in spring of 2015.

I specialize in whole hog BBQ, an item I call Chilliwack Smoked meat, pulled pork, smoked corn on the cob, and traditional dinner buffets. I mainly cater to weddings , corporate events, and bigger gatherings. We have also been trying our hands at a few food truck events for the past 2 seasons.
